Speech and language therapy for adults is often part of a larger recovery — from stroke, traumatic brain injury, a new diagnosis, or the progression of a neurological condition. We work alongside patients, families, and medical teams to rebuild communication, restore safe swallowing, and support cognitive function.

Scope of care

The full spectrum of neurogenic disorders

These conditions frequently overlap — a single stroke can affect speech, language, and swallowing together — so evaluations look at the whole picture.

  • Aphasia — language loss after stroke or brain injury
  • Dysphagia — swallowing disorders, including modified barium swallow studies
  • Dysarthria — motor speech disorders, slurred speech
  • Apraxia of speech — motor planning for speech
  • Cognitive-communication — attention, memory, executive function after TBI or dementia
  • Voice disorders — hoarseness, vocal fatigue, Parkinson's-related voice changes
  • Neurodegenerative conditions — Parkinson's, ALS, MS, Huntington's
Beyond the session

Caregivers are
part of the team.

Recovery doesn't happen in a 50-minute session. It happens at the dinner table, on the phone with family, reading the mail.

Spouses and adult children are coached on how to support communication, manage swallowing precautions, and recognize when to ask for help. We see you as part of the care team — because you are.

Specialized service

Modified barium swallow studies

An MBS captures swallow physiology in motion — pinpointing exactly where aspiration risk sits so diet and therapy recommendations are precise.

A modified barium swallow study may be ordered to be completed in coordination with local medical facilities. These studies allow precise identification of swallow physiology impairments and inform individualized diet recommendations and therapy plans.

Signs Adult Neurological Communication and Swallowing Disorders therapy may help

  • Word-finding difficulty or trouble naming familiar objects
  • Trouble understanding what others are saying
  • Slurred or effortful speech
  • Difficulty swallowing foods, liquids, or medications
  • Memory, attention, or problem-solving changes after a brain injury
  • Voice changes — hoarseness, breathiness, or vocal fatigue
  • Coughing or choking during meals

How ReImagine treats adult neurological communication and swallowing disorders

Treatment begins with a comprehensive evaluation to identify the specific communication or swallowing deficits and the patient's personal goals — returning to work, talking with grandchildren, eating safely at restaurants. Plans are built using evidence-based approaches and adapted as progress is made. Spouses, adult children, and caregivers are coached on supportive strategies so progress continues at home.
